Position Title: Summer Promotions and Public Relations Support Student
Eligibility: Must have been a full time student during the preceding academic year and intend to return to school full-time in the upcoming academic year
Organization Name: Hubbards Barn Association (HBA)
Reports to: Chairperson of the HBA. The student will work with designated Board members of the HBA, Barn Custodians and Farmers’ Market Manager
Job Location: Hubbards, Nova Scotia
Employment Term: Summer (30 hours per week for 10 weeks, weekdays and Saturdays)
Job Objective:
The Summer Student will help to carry out the vision of the Hubbards Barn and Community Park as it relates to events, promotions, marketing, maintenance and enhancement of the facility.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
The ideal candidate for this job:
Has good oral and written (including on-line) communication skills
Can work well independently as well as in groups
Has good organizational skills
Has good problem solving skills
Holds a valid driver’s licence and has the use of a vehicle
Additionally, the following experience would be an asset:
Property and garden maintenance experience
Experience in working with community organizations
Experience coordinating events
Knowledge of using social media to effectively market and promote events
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Farmers’ Market • Help with setup and cleanup on Saturdays for the Farmers’ Market, including signage and setup of the HBA table
• Represent the HBA each Saturday to promote the Barn and its activities, sell/renew memberships, sell promotional items, answer general queries and enlist volunteers
• Participates in the planning and execution of various events within Market operations, including children’s activities
2. Barn Property Maintenance • Undertake some general maintenance activities at the Barn and Community Park, such as painting, clean up, signage
3. Garden Maintenance • Help maintain existing garden beds
• Work with Garden Volunteers, as directed
4. Barn Events • Participate in the planning and execution of public events including the Food Truck Rally
• Liaise with local businesses as required for support, donations
• Work alongside volunteers at public Barn events
• Update the documented processes and activities around events
5. Marketing & Promotion of the Barn • Plan and implement the HBA parade entry for the Annual Hubbards Parade
• Assist with the sourcing of cost-effective advertising media
• Undertake general research projects and produce reports of findings, as required by the HBA Board of Directors
Start date: June 20, 2016. Ten weeks, 30 hours per week, $12.00/ hour.
