Cancellations & Postponements of 2020 Hubbards Barn Association Programs

Given the current requirements of the Nova Scotia Health Protection Act Order and the Provincial State of Emergency, and the likelihood that restrictions concerning public gatherings will remain in place in some form for the foreseeable future, the Hubbards Barn Association (HBA) Board of Directors must sadly announce a number of cancellations and postponements of our programs and services for 2020.

  1. Cancellation of the 2020 Hubbards Food Truck Rally, originally planned for July 2020. Despite this sad news (and I know there are many who look forward to the FTR each year!), we look forward to offering the 2021 Food Truck Rally, possibly with a few additions and improvements.
  2. Cancellation of Event Rentals at the Hubbards Barn & Community Park in June and July. Although these are, for the most part, private event bookings, their cancellation demonstrates the significant impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on HBA’s operations. June and July event rental bookings have been provided the opportunity to re-book in 2021 or receive a full refund. Event rental bookings in August, September, and October currently remain in place, and the renters were advised that the HBA will continue to monitor public health directives on a month-to-month basis. In this way we are striving to be responsive to public health directives, flexible and fair as possible for renters, and careful in managing the financial impact on the HBA.
  3. Postponement of the 2020 Hubbards Farmers’ Market. At this time, the HBA is postponing the Hubbards Farmers’ Market for at least May and June. In mid-June, the HBA will assess the latest public health directives and guidelines and decide whether or not to go ahead with the Hubbards Farmers’ Market in July. We will then undertake a month-to-month assessment for the remainder of the season until we can determine when the Hubbards Farmers’ Market may be operated safely. We will continue to provide updates whenever possible.
  4. Connecting Hubbards Farmers’ Market vendors to customers. A number of the local artisans, food producers, farmers, and suppliers who make the Hubbards Farmers’ Market the community focal point it has been for almost 25 years are active in connecting with their customers in innovative ways. The HBA will be looking for promotional and informational strategies to support our Hubbards Farmers’ Market vendors in these ventures. To that end, we will be providing updates and profiles and other information about your favourite vendors that are open for business. These decisions, although deeply disappointing, are necessary for the health of our contracted service providers, volunteers, vendors, all those who enjoy our programs and services, and the broader community.

As a not-for-profit, volunteer-driven organization, we know how HBA’s programs and services contribute to the vitality and vibrancy of the Hubbards and area community.

We also know that while our community continues to adapt to these unparalleled pandemic conditions, we will all find ways to continue to support each other. And one day, hopefully soon, we will gather again safely and healthily at the Hubbards Barn & Community Park.
